Within the next couple of weeks I am going to buy the parts to build my new computer. I will be using it for 1080p gaming on some of the most recent titles. I may be overclocking in the future as well. I have the keyboard, mouse, headset, everything but the parts for the build itself.

I was torn over gtx 970 or r9 390. Not too sure which one to get since I am going to 1080p game, was leaning more towards the 970.

Note: I do not want a SSD at the moment, I will be getting that at a later date. I would much rather focus on better parts now and get it later. Also, please make sure the motherboard supports USB audio devices. My friend built his computer last year and he can't use his Cloud 2 HyperX because his motherboard doesn't support it.

Thank you guys in advance for any help, much appreciated. I would like to keep the budet right around $850.

Unless you want to go through your trouble of re-installing your OS, I'd get an SSD. $70 wont be very much for better parts. You'd be better off with one at the start.

The 390 is cheaper and better than the 970. It will also leave room if you ever want to move to a higher resolution.

Will you be doing anything else than just gaming on it?

In the future I might stream, but I will just have to see what happens. I plan on getting a dual monitor setup as well in the future, so multi-tasking. But nothing other than that.

Just flip a coin. The GTX 970 and R9 390 are both fine cards. 6 or half a dozen really.

HyperX Cloud 2's have a 3.5mm jack. You're going to have a hard time finding a modern motherboard without USB ports, and a 3.5mm jack.

Went with the 390 because it's a little cheaper right now, and you can add another 390 in XFire with a PSU upgrade. You also get a nice lil cooler, and a 240GB SSD within budget.

Thanks, the Cloud 2's use the USB Port for the 7.1 surround. Not sure if you are familiar with them, but you plug in the 3.5mm jack to the other part which plugs into the USB Port. My friends motherboard didn't support USB Audio Devices, so he has to use the 3.5mm jack but in return, he cant use the 7.1 option.

I have a pair. Yeah, they have a 3.5mm jack, you don't have to use the USB control box, but as I said, you'll have a tough time finding a modern motherboard without USB ports anyway. It's probably a driver issue that your friend has.
