So with Christmas being tomorrow, I am going to be purchasing another graphics card, was wondering whether to get the R9 390 8GB or the GTX 970 4GB. I know that the 390 is 8GB, but is there a reason for the huge difference in GB size, but the price still being the same basically? Also, I have had AMD for a while now, and I'm not sure if I want to stick around with it.

Links to both graphics cards and current build:

Well on that power supply you have, I would be taking the GTX 970.

Also the 390X isn't worth the premium over a 390.

No way would a 390x run on that PSU, especially as it isn't the greatest quality. A 970 would definitely be the better choice, and a PSU upgrade would be something to consider as a next upgrade.

So if I was to upgrade to a 650W would the 390 be what I should get?

Going to upgrade the PSU also since that is what seems to be needed.

Both poor units.

I'd be getting one of those 2 personally.

There are many others out there, the main thing to look at are the rails and the actual OEM of the PSU. Superflower and Seasonic tend to be the best OEM.

Neither. Either get an EVGA G2 or GS unit, the G1's aren't the best quality, neither is that line of Sentey units.

Delttaaaaaaaaa tho fam.

OP-It's not the wattage of the unit that's not sufficient, it's the quality more than anything. Your current unit would be fine for a 390, however it could do with being upgraded when possible(doesn't have to be done immediately).

GTX 970 is more efficient, and will easily run on your current PSU, but even so, it's still going to be worth upgrading at some point. If you like AMD already, and have liked your AMD experience so far, the 390 will be fine. If you'd rather NVidia, go for the 970. The performance difference is pretty negligible so it comes down to personal preference in the end, really.

The VRAM doesn't determine which card is better, the 390 is a bit better though and it has better memory bandwidth than the 970, so performs better at higher resolutions(typically). Also, could be worth noting that 390's scale better than 970s(again, typically), so 2 x 390s will be a good bit better than 2 x 970s in th majority of games. Although, there are exceptions.
