If you haven't bought stuff yet, swap the 390 for a 970. You can get a 970 for the same price easily and you'll have SLI support since the PSU is adequate and the mobo supports SLI.

The 970 still beats the 390 in some situations. It's also more efficient. Since your motherboard has SLI support, if you bought a 970, you could add a 2nd 970 at any point for more performance. If you got the 390, the motherboard supports Crossfire, but you'd need an 850W PSU for 2 x 390s, so even if you wanted to add a 2nd card, you wouldn't be able to. 970 vs 390 is pretty much 6 or half a dozen.

Have a Strix 970, can vouch for it. Did have 2, so I can vouch for them in SLI too.

I'd personally go with a 390 and 850W unit, but that would cost a bit more, and your chosen mobo has SLI support anyway, so it's a bit cheaper to get a 970 instead of a 390 and 850W unit.

ill only be getting one card for now so would you suggest getting a little extra money and getting the 390 with an 850w psu then adding another 390 if i ever need to or want too? what would you do

If you would really prefer the 390, I'd suggest spending a little more for an 850W PSU, like the EVGA 850G2. However, you could just grab a 970 instead of the 390, which would be fine, and you wouldn't have to spend any more for SLI support.
