Hey, so my friend is looking at buying a whole new rig which I'm going to build for her.
Just so she can get a rough idea on what the cost to performance ratio is going to be, she wants to see a few different builds.
Ideally, the first should be around £750. The second tier, she's looking at spending around £1,250 with the final being around £2,000.
She doesn't need any peripherals but I would imagine that at the higher tier, it's probably better for her to upgrade her monitors.
The PC will be used for university work (Working with 3DSMax, Maya, etc. for modelling and animation) so would need to have ideal performance for rendering such things. Also going to be used for games; generic AAA titles such as GTA V, Fallout 4, etc.

Could make this first one cheaper but I believe it's worth having a SSD and 8 threads.
Second build, better case, motherboard, powersupply and motherboard.
Third, Didn't use all budget because well no need.
X99 because at this budget it would be very useful for rendering.
Some monitor options for higher tier build.

With this budget you can be a bit flexible, if you wanted to save some money you could go down to a 970, get more storage, RAM etc. I am basing this build around the CPU (due to the programs she'll be using) although it will be excellent for gaming due to having a 980 Ti;

Why would you have a server CPU for the first build? But other than that good builds for the price.

Please don't be that guy.. Yes Xeon CPUs were initially created for 'server use' but the fact that they are basically locked i5s & i7s (with a few different features) for much cheaper makes them excellent for CPU intensive as well as gaming builds.
