Are video games good for you?

If you was to ask that question to anyone then the majority of the time the answer would be a no. But researches have done some extensive research on the matter and the results would surprise a lot of people.

Personally I've always seen playing video games as a good thing, as I've always thought it improves hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills. But it turns out that it's good for other things as well, including growth in certain parts of the brain.

If you are intested in this then you can read the full article here - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you agree that we can benefit from video games, or do you feel they are only making us lazy and unsociable?

I wouldn't classify this as 'news' since this has been a discussion for years now.

Video games inspired me to start programming, without it i would not be where i am today.

Although i am only at HND Computer Science, i get to design some java games for an assessment.

Finallyyyy a decent reply 1234(( but that's awesome man! Video games can create career paths for people in all sorts of ways. A career in YouTube, game development, game testing, game programming etc.

IMO, video games does not make us dormant. It makes us think(RTS games, RPGs). It also does not make us less sociable, there are huge communities and clans out there per game. There are also LAN games and MMORPGs so that does not make us unsociable. As for laziness, well, I'll say that playing video games is just a form of "break" after a tiring day at work.

Video games are good to a certain degree. The key word that can make the difference of video games being good or bad for you is moderation. I watched a video from TED Talk about video games and I would highly suggest you watch it as well.
