Wow, first thing I thought of by "UTI" was urinary tract infection lol.

Anyway, I haven't looked into any of this but I've talked to a few people that did this. They said that it was just way too much money just for a general auto education (meaning not specializing in BMW, Mercedes, Buick, etc.)

I am hopefully going into carpentry in a year and I thought about doing a college for carpentry (UTI of wood) but I just didn't think it would be a good idea. The reason being is when you get out, you get a piece of paper saying you did it.

For mechanics, I would imagine that they would hire the kid who worked at a lube shop when he was 16 and has been working himself up vs a guy who just got out of a school for it. On the flip side, they know the guy who went to school for it at least had a chance at getting the education (some people just don't get it and cheat).

It all depends on do you want to spend 30k+ on an education that all you get to show for is a piece of paper?

If I where you I would ask mechanics for a bit of their time and ask them if they would prefer a UTI grad or a kid who just put himself out there changing oil, then did an apprenticeship, etc. and go from there. Also look up on Youtube, or Google "My UTI experience" or something like that.

Another thing is you might be able to get a job and be hired as an apprentice and they will send you to school for free. That is what my brother is doing right now.

UTI is more for people who want to work at dealerships for specific brands. Like if you work on Mercedes thew whole time at UTI, you're more than likely going to try and get a job at a Mercedes dealership. If you want to have a career in auto mechanics, go for it. Possibly the best road to take.

the 6.0L is crap, its probably imo the worst ford engine, the 7.3 is a lot better in terms of reliability.

6.0 got a bad name because they used cheap head bolts. Once you get those replaced with real bolts and bulletproof the engine, it is decent. I would still rather the 7.3L though. Thank you hippies for saying it was too loud to make them get rid of it...

The turbos are also shit on the 6.0L's to but a 7.3L is the better powerchoke out of the two but they both still need maintenance to be worth something

7.3L is pretty much indestructible lol. Just like anything in a vehicle, it is a mechanical part therefore can break.
