So I was playing a game on my pc and was running at a good frame rate, but I had a few fps drops.

I have a good GPU but a not so good CPU.

My CPU is the AMD Phenom II X4 965.

I decided to to overclock my CPU (I know, really dumb choice. I realize it now.) and my pc just shut off randomly and won't turn back on. I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in and tried turning the PC back on, nothing. I'm pretty sure I fried my CPU. I'm waiting until the morning to see if it will turn back on. I guess I will start looking for a much better CPU now, but I just want to make sure that I am getting a new one for a reason. Is it really done for?

It most likely triggered a thermal shutdown and the CPU is just cooling down before you can turn it back on. If you are using a stock cooler you should return the clock speeds back to normal until you get a better heatsink.

Ok, thank you! I'm probably getting a much better CPU anyways, but it is better to be safe.
