It's been a few months since I've even looked at a newegg page or video on linustechtips, but my old GTX 590 and 2700k are getting tired (mostly my 590) and it's time to upgrade before I move into my college dorm. I need a quieter system and right now I have to run an oscillating fan next to my case with its side panels off in order to keep my 590 in check..otherwise the thing just tries to melt itself and the fan goes bonkers. I actually cannot play newer resource hungry titles without the fan because I feel horrible (mechanical empathy, if you will) running my GPU at high temps. Everything else in my system seems robust enough and I haven't run into any restrictions with my 2700k..so I only feel obligated to upgrade the GPU. If I decide to upgrade more than the GPU, I'll be doing the entire system.
I have a virtually unlimited budget, but feel no need to spend a truly ludicrous amount. Let me know if I should upgrade everything..

the 2700k is still a decent CPU it'll be fine for gaming and well if you're running it overclocked it'll perform pretty well when compared to current i5's/i7's
980 is a fairly good option but it doesn't have a great performance for the money as in that regard you would be better off getting a 970 or a 980ti the 980 just doesn't make much sense.

Good, my 2700k never felt like a restriction. I don't even do much mixed media work so I hardly take advantage of it anymore.
I'm sure the 980 hybrid I found is definitely not a value-per-dollar option considering the extra expense due to the cooling solution, but it certainly will run quieter with noctua fans in push/pull (that was my plan). Thanks for the help I'll probably get a Ti.

If you're playing at 1080p, don't get a 980Ti, it'll be wasted money.
