I'll show you how to get Spotify Premium for free on most Android devices.
I would recommend you do this on your Android device
First enable "unknown sources" on your Android device
Then delete Spotify if you have it downloaded on your device
Download MEGA (1 or 2) from the Play Store and make an account
If your device runs 4.0 or above click [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
If your device runs below 4.0 then click [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Tap the download button and the file will start to download
After the file has downloaded then open it and select the install button
Once its done installing click open and then you're done
Sign into your Spotify account, this will not work with a Facebook account
Some premium features like offline playing and higher music quality will not work

I can verify this does not work on Droid ultra running 4.4.4

Try clearing Spotifys cache. I am not sure if this works on 4.4.4

Is your phone jailbroken? If it is then tell me what version of ios it is running. I'll try to help.

What does premium do other than offline listening and higher quality?

You get unlimited skips and reduced ads. I'm pretty sure there's more then that but not major. I like Spotify because you can make playlists and listen to radios.
