The 290 I know is a lot more and probably better but will the gtx 960 be able to play modern titles at 1080p

Sacrificing the 290 for 960 will give me about $100 extra dollars for other ssd or processor upgrades

What is your current build? That way I know if anything else needs upgrades.

R9 290 > r9 280/285 > GTX 960

Whats your current specs?

The 960 is $200, the 290 is $250. The 290 is significantly better than the 960 and has twice as much vram. Putting that $50 into a better cpu will just decrease your performance.

this does depend on what your cpu is because it may be better to get a 280x and upgrade the cpu. We need to see your build.

Should I drop the 960 for a 280x do you think. Would the PSU still support the 280x

If you haven't bought it already then I'd be getting this

Add an SSD in the future.

If you already have the parts then yeah drop in an r9 280/285/280x they all perform better than the GTX 960
