This may be a stupid question - but why doesn't rep show up right away, or for even an extended period of time for that matter?

Anyone who answers, your answer is much appreciated.

You have to get 100 rep points for every rep power.

Rep power is the number that shows up next to your name.
Rep points is what people give you.

It does. You have 0 rep power. Every 100 reputation points give you 1 rep power. Every 25 posts also gives you 1 rep power.

So when you get a combined 100 rep points, you will get your first rep power.
