Up to 80,000 people in Britain could die in a single outbreak of an infection due to a new generation of superbugs, according to an official Government forecast.

Another thing Britain is good at, surviving stupid diseases or bugs.

I had Bird flu and I punched that right in its face. So did my 76 year old Nan, she gave it to me as well.

WE SHALL TAKE THIS BUG AND WE SHALL SMUSH IT, LIKE IT WAS A REAL BUG.

New networks like to stir up panic. It helps their business, and brings in more viewers. It may/may not be a threat, but the only thing you can do is sanitize and avoid it (if contagious).

While I think articles like this are mostly fear mongering, superbugs are a possibility.
The more people use modern medicine the less effective it will be, so diseases will be able to evolve past our current medicine standards.

It's called Antimicrobial Resistance, and this is what the World Health Organisation says about it.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an ever-increasing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi.

It is an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society.
AMR is present in all parts of the world. New resistance mechanisms emerge and spread globally.

Patients with infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria are generally at increased risk of worse clinical outcomes and death, and consume more healthcare resources than patients infected with the same bacteria that are not resistant.

Without effective anti-infective treatment, many standard medical treatments will fail or turn into very high risk procedures.
