I actually had a huge issue with Avast causing DPC latency issues which made using the PC for any audio impossible. Uninstalled it and the problem was gone.

That's probably a localised issue meaning its not going to happen for everyone.

There are plenty of free AV out there. If the OP has an issue with Avast, then he can always choose another.

I recommend AVG it has been good to while using windows.

I also recommend Comodo, it's free and is a high rated antivirus

It's not an anti-virus, but also get Malwarebytes. It's a very good cleaner & does not cause any strain on your comp resources.

I've used Avira for over a year now and its pretty good. Also it doesn't annoy the shit out of you with updates and what not.
