I've been through two adapters and I was wondering if I could just buy a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable instead of buying another adapter & if so does it matter if it's gold or silver? Would it work or do I need that specific cable that comes with the adapter for it to work?

I'm not sure, but if you have earphones with a mic then you can use them like I do.

I'm surprised that SCUF hasn't released a controller with a 3.5mm input instead of the Xbone mic input yet. Seems reasonable to me that it may eventually happen.

If it's only the cable that isn't working, you can just buy any 2.5mm to 3.5mm and it'll work fine.
