Hello!
I used to play a lot of Minecraft using Bukkit with mods and stuff,
I'm just wondering if this is still around or if there is something new and better?
I've tried looking on Bukkit but it looks abandoned so? any help please.

Look up Spigot. They have functional 1.8 builds for what you are wanting.
