This will be a build for college, 3D modeling and rendering. I plan on doing 4-way sli with the gtx 980.

You must be working pretty dxmn hard to afford a computer like that.

Certainly. I am still not sure if I should wait until later in the year. It sounds like nvidia, and AMD are about to drop some new gpus. Not to mention the Type-c USB overhaul.

From what I've seen/read, there's supposed to be a lot of good stuff that'll drop this year.

Holy CPU lanes, X99 is a beast of a chipset. I'm curious though, what exactly do you think you'll need all that power for?

It had better. I am so ready for M.2 ssd's to not suck a$$. DDR4 to be cheap[er]. And for a better USB interface.

Its not what I "think" I need it for. I will be doing christ loads of 3D rendering, gaming, multi monitor (6) setup. and I want it to be seamless. And I dont want to have to worry about new builds or upgrading for as long as possible

Ah.

Well I suppose if you have the need for it, and the money to go about purchasing a power house of a build like this, you might as well. It's definitely going to be a beast in all corners of the ring, but man that CPU -- I'd kill for one of those.

I can vouch for Radeon aka Daniel's "Christ loads of 3D rendering" as we have a digital media course together in high school and that is what he is the best at. Should see some of his work. Impressive to say the least.

Anyways, this is still a crazy build, Daniel. Sure kicks the shit out of your last one. I still think you should try your hand at a custom loop on a shitty PC and see if you can master that skill as well and throw that into your PC instead of using a closed loop.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but can't twin GTX 970's out perform a single GTX 980 for less?

I wouldn't be using an H100i in that, I'd be doing a custom loop. Since you're already planning on adding 3 more GPUs, I'd definitely do something like this;

support for dual Xeons. Yes, the 5960x is better than the E5-2630, but the 2630 is still an 8C/16T CPU and is still going to be extremely fast. You can still easily add another 3 980s with ease. Custom case with hella dank custom loop possibilities. I also wouldn't be using any other cooling in this than a custom loop. That case has support for like 4x360mm rads, a 140mm rad and a 240mm rad, I think. Possibly more. Easily add another 16GB RAM. I wouldn't spend so much on a 1080p panel either.
