You can buy a brand new GTX 960 for around $200 which is more efficient, more recent and performs similarly. If you can get the 770 for a little less, do it. Otherwise, I'd just get a GTX 960 or something from AMD.

honestly. i would try to save up and just go for the 970. it would last you longer

the 960 would be better than directly compared to the 770. and might find a deal with a free game or two when getting a new card

gtx 960 2gb is better in performance then a 4gb gtx 770, don't mean to sound like a noob, thinking that more memory makes it automatically better.

is this something to do with how nvida's 970 is actually the a newer 780, and the 980 is related to the 780 ti?

The GTX 770 is pretty much on par with a GTX 960. They preform almost identically, but the GTX 770 does win fps wise in more games, but not outstandingly. The GTX 960 was made to outperform the GTX 760 and not the GTX 770, but for the price the GTX 770 isn't worth it anymore.

For a GTX 770 4gb being almost $300 I dont see it worth it honestly, The GTX 960 2gb version runs just a bit short of it gaming wise, but the GTX 960 has lower temps and less power consumption than the GTX 770 and its only $200. Yes 4gb is better than 2gb, but the GTX 960 is still an amazing gpu for the price. I personally own one and it surprised me on how well it runs games with only 2gb of memory.

Final conclusion, if you are able to find a gtx 770 4gb for $200 that's not a bad deal! As said before the GTX 770 barely beat the GTX 960 in the fps battle, but the GTX 960 has less power consumption and lower temps. If that's not an issue for you then get the GTX 770 only if it is $200, but if you have to pay more than $200 get the GTX 960 (I own the Gigabyte G1 Edition). If you able to save up for a GTX 970 I would go with that if I was you.

2GB VRAM is more than enough for 1080p. Yes, 970 replaced 780 and 960 replaced 770. Even though the 770 and 960 perform similarly the 770 was a higher end card and 960 is more mid ranged so they have to cut down on some of the extra features with the 960. For example, you can 3 way SLI 770's, but only 2 way SLI 960's. With the 960 being newer and more efficient, it'd be the better choice.
