I am thinking of buying Gold but wanted to know if I buy the subscription or membership..?

I bought the membership, to see what it's like. I would discourage buying the subscription, unless you're 100% sure that you'll remain active for a long period of time.

Membership - doesn't renew, one off.
Subscription - renews.

Gold Subscription : A reoccurring subscription that charges you $5.97 depending on your region. If you're in the UK and you use Google Wallet, your price is increased due to VAT/Tax. In March, Google Wallet will no longer be a payment source.

Gold Membership : A one time payment of the type of membership you purchase.
