No, you don't need a sound card. That's a bad build btw.

would be a much wiser choice. Both are around $560 before rebates, same as your original build but have a far superior CPU. If you go with the first build, you can OC the 270 to 270x standards and it'll still perform perfectly well. If you get the 2nd, you'll want to add another 4GB RAM asap. Either way, it's a small sacrifice to get a better CPU with a better upgrade route.

oh thanks for letting me know! i think the first build is out of my budget, and with the 2nd build i will get it but it says "The Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case supports video cards up to 350mm long, but video cards over 210mm may block drive bays. Since the PowerColor Radeon R9 280 3GB TurboDuo Video Card is 266mm long, some drive bays may not be usable." is there another case you can suggest and also with 8gb RAM? much appreciated!

Also, regardless of which build you get, you're going to need a PSU to power the rig. I assumed you already have one but just need to make sure. If you already have a PSU, what is the make and model?

The Core 1000 is fine, the GPU will fit in there. If you really want to change the case, get a Cooler Master N200 instead but that'll be a little more expensive. If you want 8GB RAM off the bat, get the build I suggested above(the one that I goofed up the link for) but you'll have to sacrifice a little bit of GPU power. You're probably best getting the 280 and 4GB RAM, then adding 4GB RAM later on.

You're going to need a PSU if you want to use the PC, otherwise it won't have any power.
