A powerful storm swept across Washington, Oregon and northern California into southern California Friday, killing at least two people, causing numerous traffic accidents on flooded roadways and multiple mudslides and water rescues.
The moisture is courtesy of a phenomenon known as an atmospheric river, also dubbed the Pineapple Express in this case, because it originates from the central Pacific Ocean near Hawaii.
Southern California land charred by recent wildfires fared the worst during the heavy rains Friday. Mandatory evacuations were issued for several communities near burn scars, including Camarillo Springs, in Ventura County, California, where a massive debris flow damaged 13 homes and left 10 uninhabitable. Another debris flow in Ventura County blocked a stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway with 18 inches of mud.
And in Los Angeles, the swollen Los Angeles River forced the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) into action when two people were swept away by the river's flow. Both were eventually rescued by the LAFD.

I live about an hour south of LA so I didn't get to witness much action at all here. It did rain pretty hard for a day or two, but it wasn't an all day thing. It would pour every now and then with the sun out sometimes. Was pretty cool actually.

From what I've heard, LA has been getting hit hard with natural disasters. First there were the fires, then the tornadoes, then there was apparently a flash flood in LA from the storm we got hit with in California. It was raining pretty heavy in San Diego, lasting almost all day with the rain, then on and off through the night, all I'm going to say, is I'm going to enjoy this "cold" while it lasts, apparently supposed to rain Tuesday and Wednesday, so looking forward to that I guess if it keeps the temperature down. The rain however, was needed very much. California has been in a drought and the water reserve or whatever has been drained quite a lot over the years and due to the drought, so hopefully this rain has been able to do what it's needed to do.
