My girlfriend recently bought an iPhone 6 plus without realising it was on O2 however she is in three and I was wandering if there was any programmes I could e to unlock it for free for her?

No there are no programs that will do this.
To unlock it you need to contact O2 and request that they unlock it or purchase a factory unlock online.
