Who do you think is basketball's greatest of all time? It is a matter of opinion, and I'd love to hear your opinion.

My opinion:
Hakeem Olajuwon
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Oscar Robertson

One of the three in my opinion.

Pasting this here (giving credit to AJ Walkin on Facebook [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ) in anticipation of any one that dares to say LeBron James can be mentioned here.

As far as my opinion goes, no put the likes of Hakeem, Kareem, or Oscar above Jordan is just...well, I assume you did so to get others to repsond as fast as possible. It worked on me!

I like your thinking. There isn't much talk about Jerry West, I forgot about him.

I've heard people say Michael Jordan, obviously it isn't. I never knew he was the logo, I don't pay much attention, I just know it isn't MJ.

Michael Jordan is basketball's greatest. No ifs, ands, or buts. There are some other great notable players such as the ones you guys are listing, but Michael Jordan is the greatest there is and ever will be. Some other notable guys are:

John Stockton
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Bill Russell
Wilt Chamberlain
Kobe Bryant
Shaquille O'Neal

I'm not too high saying Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are considered the best of all time. Bill Russell is a great player, and as a Celtics fan I praise him, but he would not be dominate in any other era he played in (same of Chamberlain). When they played, there were only about 10 teams, so 11 rings for Russell isn't something extravagant. Today, there are 30 teams, with talent from across the globe, whereas when they played, was not the case. When Russell played those playoff games, the Celtics also got a bye. Here's a little stat for you guys, Bill Russell only ended up playing 10-14 games to win 8 championships. Just let that sink in. The playoffs were nothing back then. Don't get me wrong though, that is still something great to be able to win championships on a yearly basis like that though. Both of them also entered into the league where players were smaller, weaker, and less athletic than NBA players today. Also remember, Bill Russell averaged 12.6 points per game... so almost like Andrew Bogut.

Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain were both great players, but there is no way you can say they were the best of all time.

Now here's the thing I believe Jordan is one of the greats maybe not the greatest (see Scalabrine) but Jordan popularized basketball. Like when you think one of about the GOATs of baseball you think Babe Ruth. There will probably be better players than these two down the line but no one will have the amount of impact they had on their respective sports.

I think basketball greatest is Kareem. Take a look of his career stats and awards.

Kareem scored 1k points in over 19 straight seasons. He was contributing big numbers whether it be blocks or throwing up his signature sky hook.
