Hey guys, so I wanna kick off a little discussion here about Alienwares latest product... The graphics amplifier, I'm gonna get straight to the point and say "I don't like alienware" BUT... I seen this and thought "F*ck why didn't I think of this ages ago" I'm hoping some other companies make them too in the near future and expand on this!

Overview: So in basic terms its been made for people with laptops and I believe will be targeted at those who are "On the move" and still do LAN parties etc. It is basically a case with a Pci-E express board in, a GPU and a PSU.

My Opinion: This is so cool, however the price ain't... $300? Nah, I hope AMD make another version of their own or another company with a more competitive price, you have to consider the price of the power supply, Graphics card, collectively you will have spent about $650 for decent components and for that you could sell the laptop and get a beasty LAN PC or a big ass desktop.

What's your thoughts on this product?

It's not a new idea at all, Dell is just the first to bring it to the market at an extortionate price.

I'm sort of glad they did get it more "mainstream" because if you want to do it your self you'll need to be editing drivers manually and its sort of a pain so hopefully this encourages support for devs

But damn that thing is overpriced to shit.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, it might attract other companies to compete the price.

I was looking at eGPU years ago hoping I wouldn't have to shell out for a tower to get decent performance. There was less PCIe bandwidth available for eGPUs back then and there were quirks, so I never went through with it.

People have been selling complete eGPU boxes for some time and there is nothing new here.
