Heyy guys,

Probably seen already that I'm getting my first car soon and not until now I have realised, once you pass your test, your insurance quote can sky rocket!

I had a quote of 930 GBP for a 1L Lupo, then when I change the quote to say I have a full UK manual license, it shoots up to around 3k!?

Is everyone's quote like this? And does it always go up that much? Or can it only go up a little bit?

Thanks!

Yes it does.

As a provisional driver you can only drive with Responsible, qualified drivers.

Once passed you are legal to drive on your own.

You not put your parents on and you as a named driver?

I put both parents on my insurance quote yes, but it doesn't decrease the price by a whole lot if I'm honest.

And if you mean me as a named driver on their insurance, I would, but then their insurance would go up a lot, and I would also not be getting any no claims bonus. So come next year or whenever, I'm back at square one with stupid quotes again...

Best option is take the hit in your first year or so and crank up the no claims

£3k is wayyyy too much for a lupo, I looked at quotes for a 1L lupo and I was looking at around £1300 a year.

I had a 1 litre corsa ecoflex for my first car. After passing my test, my insurance first year was 2500, second year it went down to 750, and third year it went down to 405. In the last 2 months, i've changed the Corsa for a 2014 Fiesta ST, and the insurance only went up 75 for the remaining 6 months left on the third year insurance. Going from a car with 64hp to a car with 182hp and only paying 75 onto the 405 quote? Bargain!

If any of you are thinking of getting a Fiesta ST, it's such a fun car to drive! Go for a test drive if nothing else.

Insurance for teenagers, specifically male teenagers is really high once you get your full license until the age of 22-25 because males around that age are more likely to get into an accident.

Trust me, I've tried too many cars to keep a count of, and that's literately the cheapest quote.

I'll be 17, new driver, living in a busy city which has a sort of high car crime rate. It's bound to be high sadly...
