Okay so im about to go online for the first time with my rgh,
so heres the thing: Do I have to do something to my retail before going online? Will it get banned if I just leave it there?
Please help me, thx!

Use a VPN if you're really that worried ... Or just don't go online at all and avoid the risk altogether.

Just turn it off and it should be fine. A lot of people will say to change your IP with a VPN or go through long arduous procedures to remain safe but just having common sense is generally good enough.
For instance, don't associate your main retail account with your jtag at all. Don't post your main GT on forums, it's just simple stuff that goes a long way. I have been pretty good so far and as long as you have XOSC and mac spoofing (which most servers do) you are more than fine.

THEY ARE CONFUSING YOU ^^^
Leave your Retail alone or to be safe just restart your router to get a new IP address after your RGH gets console banned.
(I don't know why people do that though because the XBLPET never ban IP address' anyway)

My retails never been banned and I've had no problem while using my rgh and retail so you should be find or watch tutorial on youtube shows how to use vpn on xbox and setup
