Really? There are plently of listings for fully functional early 2000s Cummins Diesel Rams for $3000-9000. Tahoes of that year go for even cheaper.

OP: The Tahoe is a good car, those Vortec motors will run for a very long time. Not sure if all Tahoes are Vortecs but I feel like most of them would be. Wouldn't hurt to check when you find one you like. Try to find one with low mileage obviously, but don't buy one with over 120k on it, as it won't really last you that well for the length of time I'm assuming you'll need your car. If you do get a Cummins diesel, maintain it well and it could last you past 400k.

The exact model truck he is this much, I was going to buy a Powerstroke for my first car but i'm glad i didn't I have nothing to haul xD. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

-Skyline_Jr wrote Hey guys, im turning 16 soon and i have to choose what type of vehicle i want before the end of this month so my parents can start looking. I cant get a brand new vehicle. So i was looking at a 2002 Chevy Thahoe and a 2005 Dodge ram 1500. I dont mud ride or anything, so four wheel drive isnt a must. I do want a vehicle that i could easily put speakers into though. but i want the vehicle to be reliable. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would go with the Dodge. You can do more with a truck, put more in it, etc. It is newer, they are fairly cheap to "pimp out", and so on. As far a 4x4, I would get it. I do not do much off roading, but it has come in handy soo many times, driving on grass is a lot easier, going up a steep gravel drive way, snow driving, etc.

Diesels are meant for towing, the engines create massive amounts of heat, so if you are hauling stuff, great idea, if it is a commuter truck, horrible idea, you will murder that truck.

I'm 16, I have a '97 F-150, paid off, and I can afford the gas (mind you I make 10/hr), I have also bought multiple after market things, such as grill guard, wheels, tires, lift kit, etc.
