Solid colors instead of gradients or images work better for future reference. I personally would have went with a blue or red background and then white or gold text as you wanted.

There you go, buddy. I did use an image on yours like I did on the user before you, but you chose one color for text and a semi simple background color which is why I feel that yours came out better.
