How to downgrade a ps3 to 3.55?

My brother has a slim ps3 not the super slim but just the slim and wants to jailbreak it,
i own a rgh so i dont really know much about ps3 modded console i know about jtag/rgh xbox modded consoles only cause i own one,
now i hear you have to downgrade to 3.55 and apprently you can downgrade to official firmware or custom firmware so here are my two questions for you guys
1. how do i downgrade to 3.55
2. should i downgrade to 3.55 custom or official i really need help with this.

In order to downgrade you need a E3 flasher and you would want to downgrade to 3.55 ofw or original and then install a cfw or custom firmware on top of the 3.55 ofw

Hardware flasher, you shouldnt be buying one if you dont know what it is.

If your PS3 is already on FW 3.55 (Honestly doubt it is) but if it is then you may jailbreak your PS3, In order to do this, you would need to download a CFW something like Geohot 3.55 and then if you would like to go online download Rogero 4.55 and then spoof it to 4.60 and your done, now you can install package files such as file managers and mulitman, All depending on what you need.
