TSNYC wrote I do agree with you and I see a lot of people just gifting to get the badge which I don't personally agree with.

Then again it is their own money and they can choose to spend it how they like, who am I to say otherwise? After all the money is going towards the site so it will still have a positive impact.

I don't see any problem with someone adding stipulations as long as it is within the rules of the site and in some cases I actually agree with it.

Adding stipulations to a GIVEAWAY c'mon the idea is to give people an opportunity not threaten them to do as you say or else you get nothing.

I can see where you're coming from but I think it sometimes adds variety to the site as lots of people just put "post why you deserve gold" etc etc. Having things to enter like posting a funny meme or video makes it more interesting in my opinion.

Then on that logic it then becomes a gold "Competition"

Technically speaking then I suppose you are correct but then every giveaway should be done randomly (which is how I do my giveaways as it means everyone gets a fair shot) as otherwise it wouldn't be a giveaway. Take 95% of the gold giveaways on this site and they will be for active and friendly members of the site you could then argue that they are only getting gold for the effort they put in around the site and they only receive gold in exchange for this contribution (see how some very good old members aren't gold any more because they are not active) which then makes it less like a giveaway. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this set up, on the contrary actually I think it's the best way but you can definitely argue that most of the gold giveaways in the general discussion are a competition of who is the most active, popular, helpful... etc, member as people aren't really going to want to gift a user who barely visits or contributes anything to the site.

True people give to friends and active members and they do it off-topic but the point I am tying to get across is the fact people just put ZERO thought into gifting anymore and re-word other people's popular topics so that they get thanks as well . if they want to make it into a competition then they should say it is a COMPETITION and then yeah add stipulations and rules but they call it a giveaway and in essence they are just being 100% selfish.

I myself have been guilty of doing a gold giveaway topic with stipulations and rules and I felt really bad after posting it but I made it so that everyone who posted it on it basically got gold then I had it closed.

But I see daily topics with people doing number generators which to me is just getting a large number of people to post with stuff like "Will pick when I have 100 replies". That to me is completely selfish. All people simply have to do is pick who they want to gift them go to their profile and gift them...Job done.

Yeah I agree with that 100% mate, especially with people just doing it for the badges. The point of a gold gifter badge is to reward those who are generous enough to actually gift gold for the sake of gifting gold rather than to be used as an easy way to acquire a badge and then for that person to never gift again. I've seen people gift 25 people in one go with no thought of who he was gifting, I don't like that one bit.
