Not entirely sure how to describe this one, but my SSD (C drive's storage changes pretty much every time I've booted up. Right now I supposedly have ~27GB free out of 476GB. If I refresh it every few minutes it will change incrementally, whether up or down. Yesterday I had somewhere around ~45GB free. Literally none of my programs, documents or files take up that kind of space (there's a reason I have 3 other drives!). I tried virus scans (I have paid versions) - Kaspersky turned up with nothing and every time I start up Malwarebytes, it crashes immediately. Oh, and apparently every time I boot up there's a Java update available (normal?), and I can't update my graphics drivers because I can't open up the GeForce experience program.

Whatever suggestions you may have, please do let me know.

Get WinDirStat, scan your drive and come back and tell us which files are using up all of the space if you don't know what to do with them. If the files in question are .sys files or are located in c:\windows DO NOT TOUCH THEM without asking what they are for.

Not 100% sure if any of this looks out of the ordinary, but here are the results. I think this GC folder under "Michael\appdata\Local\Temp\GC\Profiles" is a bit odd. ~100GB? What the heck is in there? Russia's nuclear launch codes?

Ok run disk cleanup from the start menu/accessories/system tools to get rid of the temp files (cg folder and some others there). Also I see you have a very large amount of SB files, these i believe are associated with the program scratch, delete them if you don't need them, they're huge. As for the green 12.5 gb sys file, click on the big pale green rectangle at the bottom so it changes to a view where you can see the name of the file, screenshot it, and post it here again.

The only time this happens to me is when Windows make hibernation files...

They can be anything from 1GB to 35GB or at least that's the variations I've had... But I'd turn them off as how often does anyone use Hibernation mode?

I leafed through some of the SB files and I think I need them considering they all fall under the Battlefield 3 directory, so those I guess can stay. I'll run disk cleanup right now, but here's the sshot you needed.

Ok hyberfil.sys is a very easy fix. this is the file that your pc uses for the hibernate feature. If you use this feature i would just switch to sleep instead so that you can free up that 12gb. how to remove:

You'll need to open an administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt in the start menu, and then choosing Run as Administrator. Once you're there, type in the following command:

powercfg -h off

boom, the file is gone, along with the option to hibernate your pc in the power off menu.

if you ever desperately need to turn it back on go back to cmd and type in:

powercfg -h on

Right now disk cleanup is scanning temp files which I imagine will take a bit but right now my SSD has ~88GB available so obviously this all worked. Cheers for the help
