Hi my question is that if I were to get a 1TB Samsung SSD should I just save myself the hassle and clone my HDD or would installing a fresh OS have and gains towards it.

The HDD is only a couple of months old and has only got what I need such as my games and application no stupid tool bars and such that some people get also is virus free.

I know quite a lot about PCs (like many I built my own) so I can understand he terms that are used.

Thanks in advanced for the help.

Ok, I am having a hard time understanding exactly what you are asking so I will give you a few options here.
1. RAID 1 - You can have the two drives mirror each other.
2. Have SSD be your main drive so copy your hdd over to your ssd so it is faster then format hdd to be a "flash drive" to your ssd.
3. Were you meaing by installing a fresh OS that you would only be using the SSD?

I'd start fresh, backup the files you need and transfer them back over. Just my opinion.

I was saying is would I get any performance advantages from putting a new OS on the SSD or should I clone my old HDD to the SSD. I will stop using the HDD once I have a SSD

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago when I bought a SSD for my PC. I had my OS installed on my HDD and I ended up just re-installing a clean slate of Windows 8.1 onto my SSD.

All I had on my PC were about 5-7 games and I didn't mind re-downloading them since I have a pretty good download speed. I didn't want to go through the hassle of backing up and cloning. Also, if you decide to re-install and get a fresh OS you will need a Windows install disc and your product key.

You wouldn't see any performance differences to answer one of your questions.

Put the clean OS on the SSD [ only need a 256GB max ] and keep the 1TB HDD for programs and other clutter things that you dont want to put on the SSD.

I have a 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD.

Important programs like FireFox, my main games & benchmark programs go on it & the HDD has everything else and is also a recording HDD.

I still have 22GB of my SSD and 700GB on my HDD.

You can buy an 1TB SSD but IMO, its not worth it.
