I suppose it is better to phone up and be sure than going there to waste your time when you realised it is closed.

With that being said, they should probably take note of opening times or something 1234((

IF YOUR boss likes you, it's hard to mess that up. The boss and manager where I work both like me and I have banter with them all the time. Although, just because someone asks at midday if a pizza shop is open, does not mean they are unintelligent. Some places close at lunch time(between 11am and 2pm) for an hour. Some places don't open until 4pm-6pm, depending on the place and day. I have to show up for work an hour before the hotel I work in opens for dinner. Maybe the phone, you answer and they think "Hm, maybe they're shut and this guy's just preparing for openeing" so they ask, just in case.

If they called only to know if you are open, what do you really expect them to say or ask when you pick up? I bet you wouldn't take to kindly to them just hanging up on you once you've answered. Who knows? Maybe they thought that the place you work at could be closed for some reason. Maybe due to things like renovations, health violations, or the owner just decided it didn't need to be there anymore.

YZE wrote Just tell them, "No this is patrick"

I lost it. This comment was great. +1 Bruce Wayne points to you, sir.

However, you shouldn't be complaining about doing YOUR job. If you are the one answering the phone, then do it. If it is THAT big of a deal to answer the phone quit answering and see how long your job lasts.

1, They don't know if your open until they call and it would be rude to hang up straight away so they say somethin' and

2, Why are you callin' people stupid and then typin' like that?
