It also could be that he bought the device on Ebay and its been locked.

Ok, so i made some research and i found that as someone previously said theres a way to bypass the iCloud lock on ANY device, doulci is the a team of guys who made this possible This video explains everything as it is very complicated [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The bypass works with a server you need to add to iTunes but at the moment this server is down cause they are still testing other devices.

It took me some time to research but i think it was worth it, Hope i helped
