As long as it has its own independent graphics card , gaming on a laptop can be a great thing at times

Honestly if you're going to go with a laptop check craigslist i found a 800$ laptop on craigslist for 550$ and im pleased i can play every game on decent settings. 550$ is still a lot but its when i got 7k from taxes. my friend has a 2,000$ computer and its probably the best thing i've seen in person it runs so smooth on every game ultra settings its all up to you.

mini-ITX would be the way to go, as others have said. You can just throw together a decent micro-ATX board and maybe a HTPC-esque case with a handle on it and you'd be good to go. The only down side of course would be the lack of a built-in screen, but it's almost just as portable as a laptop.

I bought a gaming laptop simply because I needed it for school. It is very powerful with an Intel i7 2.8ghz with an NVIDIA 860m. It is very light with a 15.6 screen. I honestly see no big disadvantage in laptop gaming. I get to bring mine places easier and it runs as fast as most desktops. If i want a desktop experience I simply hook my laptop up to my monitor and push it to the side. Desktops are easier to build and upgrade yourself, that's the only downside I see.
