As a part of the video production team at my school I have to go back and fourth, filming at school and taking footage home. Today my teacher gave me an external WD My Passport HDD (1TB) with footage and I cannot access it. It shows up in Disk Management and in Devices and Printers, but not in My Computer. I cannot access the file contents. According to Windows I have all necessary drivers..

Any help is appreciated.

not entirely sure and you have probably done this, run as admin or something along those lines.
Saying that, this may be of some use

It's probably not in a format that can be read with Windows. Does the teacher use a Mac?

Yes, I figured that would be the issue. Can't assign it a letter or anything. He uses the new Mac Pro, which indeed looks like a chic coffee maker..Thanks.

Quick install Mountain Lion!

OR, you can just ask your teacher to reformat the drive in exFAT, which is readable by windows and OS X and supports files > 4GB, unlike FAT32.
