I currently have an old PC( about 5 years ) and i have a multitude of questions, so if you can answer any of these questions, please respond with the number of the question you are answering, thank you.
1. Is this a good idea? to upgrade a PC so old? the reason i am not just starting from scratch is because of financial issues, but i need to upgrade my PC due to my future career and for gaming, and also just becasue i want to.
2.how could i check the version of my graphics card input? i do not know if it is PCIe 1.0,2.0,or 3.0
3. what parts would i need to buy to have a "High Performance" PC. and by that i mean able to run new games like BF4 on High settings around 40fps. I already have a large enough hard drive but have a 2.7 GHz Intel dual core CPU which probably needs to be upgraded
4.How much do you think this will cost, considering my budget is around $450.

I would recommend buying a knew PC with your money as it will taking a lot of time and money upgrading an old PC.
If your'e looking for a really good gaming graphics card your'e speaking around $500 estimate, much more than your profit.

it would cost probably a bit more than that
you can get a 270x for $220
and a new processor for 150ish
and a new mobo with that socket for 40-50
depending on your psu and your ram you may need more depending on what you have

Chances are the PSU is trash, the RAM maybe is DDR2, the GPU if any might not be very good aswell.
You could rip the case and HDD if the case is big enough, but you'll going to have to buy most of the parts again.
