My Xbox has done the "open tray error" for about a year now. It used to do it once or twice but now it is for at least an hour before I can get it to even notice there is a disk there, let alone read it. No I cant send it into Microsoft I have voided the warranty. I am so sick of it and I don't want to buy a new disk tray they are like $80 on ebay. So can anyone help me or point me to some help? Thanks!

mate its the laser within the xbox, you need to replace or clean it so that it reads that their is a disk, this also happened to me a while ago

usually if you hit it on the top not hard it works or you need to replace the laser inside

Any tips on cleaning the laser? I've tried the Q-Tip thing.

That sadly doesn't work for me anymore.

I wouldn't clean the laser as in the near future it will break again,

when I was fixing ps3s I bought a laser from ebay brand new for 9 and just used that

just buy a new laser its not that much

Thanks guys! Turns out I just needed to adjust the screws on the laser because it was getting weak.

you can only adjust the screws with a special screw driver
