is the PSN network like xbox live? if i jailbreak my PS3, will I lose ability to use netflix/go on live without modding games. i just mainly want to use it as a PS2 as i miss the old kingdom hearts games

You can go online and connect to PSN network (and yes it's like XBL) but you will need a valid console ID (like a KV on Xbox) to connect to PSN. It's a whole lot easier to find console IDs but they're not always availble. If your sole purpose is to have backwards compatibility, then I would just buy an older version of the phat PS3s.

I personally think you should... All you would need to do is downgrade to 3.55 if your not on it install a CFW then update it to a CEX, SEX, or my personal favorite a DEX.. With DEX its only on 4.50 but it could still go online... That allows you to go online and allows you to have a modified console at the same time... So it would be like the good old days... Also there is less chance of getting banned if you have the right apps... Also just never be signed in when running homebrew or anything like that... Its okay for you to mod online just make sure you try not to cheat much in public and you should be fine with the banning situation.. Even if you get banned from online its really easy to unban yourself there is a couple of different methods of doing this... Also I would like to say I have a modded PS3 that is on a 4.50 PS3ITA DEX which is awesome I prefer it if your going to be online plus want full features to things.. Also its just not a modded console anymore it also turns it into like a Dev Kit since it has Dev Kit features.. So I say mod your PS3 on 3.55 with a CFW of course then upgrade it with a PS3ITA DEX... Also I would like to say I also have a JTAG/RGH as well... PS3 modding scene is way easier trust me..
