Yes, everyone on Minecraft is insane about Optifine, which is understandable because my FPS went up by 20, but here are some other Tips & Tricks to boost your FPS that I have found.

For Windows 7
Go to Task Manager > Processes > java...
Right Click > Set Priority > High
This will set the priority on your java to most important

-Do not play on full screen, a smaller GUI will result in better FPS.

-Download Optifine (just search on google instructions)
Once in Optifine, turn off all animations but the items animations
Will improve FPS greatly because the lava flow and water are very hard on your computer.

-Turn particles to minimal

Says Changing the priority of certain processes could cause system instability... Is it safe?

I have changed the priority may times in the past and it didn't do anything for me...

If you want better FPS, either get Opti-Fine or better specs.

Even if you did get Opti-fine, it will boost it by like 5fps...
