So recently i have been having difficulty playing games on my pc after the install of the new 8.1 update but i had found a fix for me that might help some of you. Hopefully it helps
Steps
1. Open File Explorer and right click on computer to open up properties.
2. A new window should open called system that tells you about the basic information about your computer. On the right side click on device manager.
3. Look for Display adapter and it should display your graphics card.
4. Right click on your graphics card and click update driver software.
5. Search for any update to your drives and this should fix your lag issue.
If nothing is found and installed then your computer has different problem and this wasn't much help. Sorry hope this helps since it helped me

There's many way's to speed up Windows 8.1, here's just a few:
- Change the power options to 'Best performance' this will increase the power into your PC, may cause a laptops battery life to die pretty quickly!
- Edit your start up items and services using MSConfig; All processed are reversable!
- Clear your temp folder, depends on how long you've been using you PC (E.G. If your computer is 1 year old its essentially going to have more junk files than a 4 month old PC) - Run> Search for "%temp%"
- Use 3rd party programs such as CCleaner, Malware Bytes. I can provide serials for both if needed for the pro versions!
