do you need playstation plus to play multiplayer on anything like cod ghosts?

No you do not need playstation plus to play online.
I thought that was the case and I bought a year of playstation plus.
But once a buddy tried splitscreening with me he created a psn account and played online no problem

One account on the console needs PS+ to play online. If one account does have it, the rest on the console will be able to play online too.
