Live players-over 46 million
What about Sony?
Doesn't matter about silver membership, they're still connected to Live.

I don't think you understand, there are 5,312,690 ONLINE now. There's no official count for 2013, but it 2012 there were over 40 million total users. That's definitely big competition.

Sony and MS don't care about steam.
And you think all 40million of them will buy the console.?
I'm not talking trash as in I play PC games occasionally but I'm saying it won't be as big as Sony and Xbox.

Well, i own both a Xbox 360 and a "gaming" PC, and i prefer playing FPS games on Xbox due to the controller being easier to use in fast paced games, but for campaign ones and ones like Splinter Cell and FarCry PC will always be the better option due to it have better performance and graphical scale.

Will consoles ever go, no they won't with out consoles PC probably would have half the games it has today and wouldn't be as advanced as they are, as competition in markets always ups the expectation in new products. PC and consoles are pretty much the same things deep down, they are both computers as such, just consoles run a different OS. PC also has better hardware customisation but can be quite an expensive hobby.

I would consider myself as a PC Gamer, but I'm also a console gamer, it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day. If you prefer better quality and higher performance games, a PC cannot be beaten, and never will be. If you want ease of play and the community of the Xbox or PS3 then consoles are your only choice.

But neither are better. Remember that.

Awesome Sauce!

I hope PC stays how it is, on the communities outside of COD, the players are much more mature and easy to get on with. We don't want 12 year olds telling us about how they "f'd our mothers" the previous night because they didn't get what they want.
And to clarify I have had the PS1,PS2, PS3 + XBOX360 and now I have a gaming PC, and I can say there is nothing wrong with consoles, at the age of 9 or 10 I wasn't wanting a PC to play spyro the dragon. I can see where everyone is coming from, and that valve are making steam more accessible for console players who wan't off console, but this predetermined idea that PC is expensive and difficult will be PC's downfall

Doesn't make a difference

I think OP doesn't understand what the point we are making is, so here it is:

Unfortunately we live in a world where the vast majority of people see computers as intimidating to play games on, and because of this underlying conception, it means the PC market doesn't do as well as it should. Valves answer to this is to create a console, however this "one size doesn't fit all" it actually for people who want a PC but cant afford one, not to convince console players to change, that is why console players play console, because one size DOES fit all. Therefore the number of people who will change from console to PC will be the ones that want to be on PC but cannot afford it financially and this is for them, however the majority of console players buy consoles because they know it will play the next halo/cod/[game of choice]. Not because its better, but because it does what they want for a reasonable price.

N.B.
[game of choice]. Not because its better, but because

Not saying anything is better, just explaining why people pick consoles.

I myself am a "PC Gamer", and i must say the PC is my opinion will outdo the consoles regardless when regarding specifications, we are constantly getting upgrades and whatnot, whereas consoles are one set spec out of the box, the market for both types of gaming machines is high however the constant mantinance and upgrades the PC requires is just to exspensive and overwhelming compared to the afordability of a "casual gamer" which in my eyes is what a console is aimed at, then again some people like myself do have a "Gaming PC" and an Xbox 360, i like the simplicity of the xbox for games such as GTA however when it comes to World of Warcraft,Battlefeild and Call of Duty, the PC out performs them all, now regarding the amount of users on Xbox and playstation compared to PC is gastronomical. At this moment in time they are 6 million users on steam and around 40 million online on xbox live, now where do the factors come in, PC gaming is free for online usage (unless you pay 9 a month for WoW like me) however 40 a year for online on a mediocre console that is reasonabily priced and doesnt require upgrades is very good in my opinion. Take a typical gaming pc like mine;
    Nvidia Geoforce gtx 660ti
i7 sandybridge proccessor overclocked to 4.9GHz
    24GB DDR3 RAM
    1TB Harddrive
    600W COrshair power supply

1400

Xbox 360: 189.99 plus 40 a year for XBL

Now, you choose, casual gamers vs the hardcore gamer?, i think you will find they are more casual gamers when taking a look at the statistics, but thats just my overview of it.
