PC Recommendations

Ok so basically I'm traditionally a console player just because of the simplicity in just hopping on and playing with my friends. Now I'm basically trying to decide wether to get a next-gen console or a fairly decent gaming PC.
I've been looking at different pre-built Alienware desktops. I've been looking looking at the x51 with an i5 and what not. I'm interested in the x51 because it has a very sleek design and does what I would like it to do.
I'm only 16 so I'm looking for a PC(not a laptop) that can game and do other tasks such as run Visual Studio, Microsoft Word, etc. etc. Building a PC from scratch is something I have thought about as well. Anyways I'm just curious as to what some of you think and what you would recommend. A price range of say within the $1,000 range would be recommended.
Sorry for the whole huge report but I just want to get the best bang for mu buck and something that will work best for me.

First off, build your own PC, don't buy premade desktops. Alienwares are awful, and with the price you spend you get build a desktop that's twice as good. I just build my computer last week and these are my specs : [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

This build is pretty good It is the build I am using now But I have a different case but that shouldn't matter. It Runs BF4 on high without a problem and on ultra at times may experience fps drops. This is all from the beta so glitches and bugs maybe fixed by the time the game releases
