So I'm in a earth class in school right now and we're learning about earthquakes. Something that I found interesting is that before the main earthquake there are small quakes leading up to it that we can usually never feel. I can't remember the actual word for it but I know it's a thing. I started wondering what if every major earthquake in history is just leading up to an earth-shattering quake? Where this quake is so powerful that it literally breaks the Earth.

I get how this goes against what we know about how earthquakes work, but we're just working with what we know. So if it's never happened then we don't know that it can't. This may not make sense to some people, but please let me know what you think about it.
