Hi people, long time lurker first time poster here!

Yesterday my old Jasper JTAG broke on me, so im about to purchase a replacement dual nand RGH slim. I was wondering if i could take out my 500gb hard drive from my old console and put it directly in the RGH slim? will it work fine or will this cause problems?

Thanks in advance!

as long as it's a slim HDD, it should work.

Slim hard drives with the case are 9.5 mm, aka smaller thinner laptop style hard drive, compared to the 3.5 mm standard hard drive you'll find in the phat Xbox hard drive/ average computer hard drive.

Can you get a phat hard drive to fit in a slim?, with out the housing kinda, but it will not fit into a slim hard drive casing. Without the casing it will work, but it will just hang there, and it's a hassle to properly plug in without the slim style hard drive casing.

I wanna make a few things clear here, if you have a dual nand and you wanna play on xbl, you cannot use your rgh 500 gig hard drive for Live. If you plan on connecting to Live you have to use a official 320 or 250 gig harddrive. For your offline RGH it'll be fine, but when you flip to retail nand the hard drive wont be supported.

Also slim hard drives are 2.5 not 3.5 like in the phats, meaning a phat harddrive will not fit in a slim hard drive casing. It will fit without the casing, but it's a hassle, and kinda hangs there, and tends to disconnect.

Personally I recommend you buy a 9.5 mm sata 1 tb hard drive off ebay (laptop harddrive) and a $5 empty xbox slim hard drive case

So for $75 you can get 1000 gig hard drive and a case, but you're still gonna need a 320 or 250 gig official microsft hard drive for your retail nand.

It's not recommended to have anything for your RGH/Jtag on your retail harddrive, if at all possible you should keep them separate, some claim MS can scan your HD and you'll get flagged, but I personally have 3 dual nand slims all with 320 gig hard drives and I have jtag stuff on all of them before I bought the 1 tb drive and still no ban after a few years...

Yeah i have a 20gb official hard drive which im going to use for my retail nand and then my 500gb one for my Jtag nand.
Are you sure the old hard drives wont fit in the slim caddy's?
