Like few said I would go with OBS, its free, and you can use it record not only stream.

Quick tut to record:

-Open OBS.
-Click on settings.
-Click on settings in drop down menu.
-Click on broadcast settings.
-Click on mode and change to file output mode.
-Then do your file path and hot-keys if needed.
-Done.

Hope this helps.

I personally use Camtasia 8.
I use that for recording my screen etc...
Never had problems with it,
Can do many creative things on it as well.
I really do recommend it.
