I have never played the game, so I cannot really comment on whether or not there is this wider meaning that you believe there is.

However I believe that when you finish a campaign of a game, or when you finish a book, or even finish watching a film, what you get from the ending can change, sometimes drastically, from person to person.

What you take from the ending of something like this, I believe, is simply what you make of it. For example, when Shakespeare wrote that a particular person had blue curtains, did he write that specifically such that the reader would realise that because the person had blue curtains, that means they were depressed? My guess is no. What you read, see, play etc, is what you make of it. I.e, if you get a much bigger message at the end of a film or game etc, than your friend, does it matter? No.

That's what I love about some books, how the message at the end of a good book can be interpreted in so many different ways.

EDIT: And sorry that this might not have really answered your question, I just thought this might be nice for me to share with you.
