The best place? A physical book. Second best, le youtube. Use various web references in your studies.

In my opinion, the best place to start learning any language is Google/Youtube. The array of knowledge on the web is vast, it's best you have some sort of goal to attain before you start learning however for some motivation to strive towards. Otherwise you'll get bored.

Always have an endgame.

Honestly, the best place to learn the basics of Java and work your way up is by watching Brandonio Productions [Learning Java Playlist]

It taught me everything I know - he covers the subject VERY well.

I actually disagree, it's often difficult to keep up with some tutorials, I advise you get a book (boring, I know) to learn, because you can set your own pace and learn different areas whenever you're ready.

Agreed, as I'm currently reading a book on Java. It's a whole lot easier, not really boring because I actually want to learn this.

I'm taking this directly from CoNdEmR's motto which is like right above.

"Java" is to "Javascript" about the same as "fun" is to "funeral".

He said JAVA, not JavaSCRIPT.
