My credit card on my Xbox passed its expiration date, so I changed it from 5/2013 to 5/2014 and purchased a game, is this illegal, are there any consequences? I'm unsure

This could be considered credit card fraud if you purchased the game for free.

If you've got the game and it let you download it there shouldn't be a problem

You'll be in some form of debt. Probably banned until you get a valid credit card on your account so they can charge you for the points.

The money would have got taken out of your account for it, as long as your account isn't closed, you can still make online purchases with your expired card until your new card has arrived and is activated.

My friend has done this before.

Microsoft will just make you pay what you owe with a valid credit card.

Do not worry.
