My 18th birthday is next week and I am getting some money early. I am planning on buying within the next couple of days (Hopefully today!). I have about a 575$ish build up to 600$ with shipping. I am planning on buy everything at Newegg for shipping purposes.

So far this is the build I have chosen:

  • Rosewill CHALLENGER Black gaming ATX Mid Tower. ($49.99; 3 Fans)
  • MSI H61M-P31 Micro ATX($47.99)
  • GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB($169.99)
  • Corsair CX430($44.99)
  • i3-3220 Ivy @3.3GHz($129.99)
  • Crucial Ballistix Sprot 8GB($52.99)
  • Western Digital WD Blue 500GB($59.99)
  • ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter($18.99)

Total: $575:: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

But I was wondering should I get a AMD build? I was looking into these processors:

  • FX-6300K
  • A8-6600K

My goal is to run Planetside 2 on high settings. Understanding most of the game is CPU-heavy it is a hard derision for me. I saw a video that was uploaded in the past couple of days. Same exact build running PS2 on high.

Any advice would be helpful! I might be overclocking, but I highly doubt it. The reason I can not go higher is because of college starting in the fall and I need all the money I can get!

Note: I know how computers work and how to build. I am majoring in Computer Science.

I almost have the exact same build, and I recommend a better a PSU with a higher wattage, and I have an i5 3330 which is the same price as your i3. I have the 650Ti but not the boost, and I am very pleased with my build.

*EDIT*
Didn't make it clear, i have the CX430 and I wish I had a different PSU at 430W isnt sufficient.

I wouldn't restrict myself to one store, there are many deals out there and many retailers offer free shipping on expensive items. The build i'll link below is an eight core AMD build with good overclocking capability should you wish to (aftermarket cooler req) and the graphics performance will be better.

Also i don't understand why the poster above wants more out of his PSU unless he wants to upgrade, in that case just buy another PSU. Its not like the CX430's cost much in the first place, and its nice to have a backup.

Well when I play games etc, I get a windows message about power and I need to change the theme.

What does the message say exactly? I've never heard of windows noticing the system doesn't have power unless its a laptop.

If you are drawing too much power from the unit, the system will either turn off to protect itself, or go boom boom.

If you are wanting to game, i wouldn't go with a dual core CPU. You need to go with a quad core or like what Buxtyy linked. For Intel you should go with an i5 or just go with AMD. AMD is cheaper than Intel, not in a bad way cheap either, and i think has better quality than Intel in some cases.

I have an AMD Phenom Quad Core with a Radeon HD 7770 GPU and i can run PS2 on high and get around 80-100 FPS.

Something like "windows in consuming alot of power, it is suggested that you change your theme for optimal performance"

What power options are you running? Because Windows doesn't normally just give you power messages.

Unless its derpy windows trying to be economical. Screw being green we are gamers.

Go into the power options and see if there is a setting to turn off notifications for power use and crank it up to high performance mode.
